information
all yarns & fibres available for purchase in the Old Maiden Aunt shop have been handpainted in scotland. the mill-spun base yarn & spinning fibre for my handpaints is as ethically sourced as possible, and is processed at mills local to where the fibre is produced - UK-breed wool is milled in the UK, and the exotic blends are milled at their source in South America, with a portion of the money going to the Mirasol Project. i work from a small studio in West Kilbride which is open to the public thursdays & fridays 11am-3pm and saturdays 12-4pm.
for the most part, i dye my yarns either as single, one-off skeins, or in small batches of 2-3 skeins per colourway. if you see something you like it's best to snap it up - it might be the only one of its kind, and the colourway might not be repeated! i do keep a record of the dyeing process for most of the yarns, so if you're desperate for a colourway that is now sold out i may be able to reproduce it for you. if you're planning a larger project and need more yardage than is currently available in the online shop, please let me know what you need as i can often custom dye larger batches of most yarns/colourways. all combed tops (rovings) are dyed as one-off colourways which can't be repeated.at the moment, i'm not taking on any more wholesale customers. however, i am available to do one-off trunk shows, so if you'd like to host an Old Maiden Aunt trunk show at your yarn shop, please email me!
shipping costs for retail customers are charged at a flat rate per order of £2.00 within the UK & Europe, and £2.75 for anywhere else in the world - this is based on the actual cost of sending 100g of yarn/fibre.
due to the nature of handpainted yarns as well as the slight differences in colour between different computer monitors, i'm unfortunately unable to accept returns or issue refunds on the basis of colour.if you have any questions at all, please feel free to drop me a line at info@oldmaidenaunt.com & i'll get back to you as soon as i can.
